September 9th, International FASD Awareness Day
Every year on September 9th, International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day is observed in countries in and around the world. Bells are rung at 9:09 in every time zone. FASD is 100% irreversible, BUT the good news is that it is also 100% preventable. NO amount of alcohol is safe to use during pregnancy. See how FARR colleagues and local community members created awareness about the dangers of drinking alcohol during pregnancy.
Cape Town: Amber Place, Bellville
At our head office in Bellville, we collaborated with Run/Walk for Life. The message was shared and the bell was rung at 09.09, followed by a 9km walk. Everyone met back at the office for coffee and a snack. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Cape Town: Delft, Eerste River
On 9 September, two FARR colleagues attended the FASD awareness program in Delft organized by the Department of Social Development: City of Cape Town, in co-operation with partners in the substance abuse field
Cape Town: Site C, Khayelitsha
Two FARR colleagues shared the 9 September FASD message with participants of a 3 day FASD Workshop. The workshop was organized by the Dept of Social Development: City of Cape Town and Bounce Back Community Development
De Aar
On 9 September the De Aar community did a 9km fun run to raise awareness of FASD. The event was supported by funders such as Solar Capital De Aar and De Aar Solar Power as well as the Police Department, Dept of Health, Social Development and SASSA
Renosterberg
The Phillipstown, Petrusville and Keurtjieskloof communities in the Northern Cape all commemorated International FASD Awareness Day on 9 September. Thank you for doing your part!
